The road to healthier hair and skin...

Ok beauties, are you starting to notice the winter warning signs? Is your skin looking a little flakey and dull? Are you considering shaving your hair off because you are suffering from an itchy or dry scalp? Odds are you are suffering from a serious case of dehydration. In my Skincare basic’s 101 blog post I talk about the different skin types and focus on what products are best for combination skin. Yes, the products you use are extremely important when it comes to maintaining hydrated skin but that is not the only component!
NUTRITION
You want to be sure that you practice healthy nutrition. Make sure your diet consists of healthy fats, proteins, and plenty of greens! I have always been a fan of my vegetables, however, I understand that not everyone is. For those of you that are not, there are many local juice bars that have delicious organic drinks. If you are up to experimenting in the kitchen, I have provided my favorite juice recipes below.

Mean Green Juice
1 Bundle of spinach
2 handfuls of kale
1 green apple
1 cucumber
1 pear
Autumn Harvest Juice
1 medium sweet potato (peeled)
1 green apple
2 medium carrots
1-inch ginger root, (peeled)
FACIAL'S
Facials are something you definitely want to invest in! I like to get my facials at #Iconicskincare the estheticians there are extremely knowledgeable about the products you should use for your face. There are many different facials you can choose from. Some of my personal favorites are the fire and ice facial and the custom superfood facial. I love these both because they can be tailored to the needs of your face. I have combination skin and around this time of the year, my skin tends to get extremely flakey. Superfood facials help restore my skin and set my face back to its natural state. It is a huge investment but well worth it, but I understand that not everyone has the privilege of splurging on a facial. Below I have provided a few of my favorite at-home remedies that you can implement in your skincare routine.
Honey Face Mask
2 tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
2-3 drops of lavender essential oil
Banana Face Mask
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon of raw honey
1 teaspoon of olive oil
Avocado Face Mask
½ avocado
½ ripe banana
1 tablespoon of olive oil

HAIR CARE
Your hair is just as important as your skin. I am sure you are aware that practicing healthy nutrition, drinking plenty of water, and taking daily multivitamins is a must! I am here to remind you that winter is coming and you need to be prepared. If you want to avoid a dry scalp. Coconut and argan oil are your new best friends! This will definitely improve the overall look and feel of your hair, especially for those of us that have color-treated hair!
As the temperatures get cooler it can be easy to crank up the hot water and take steamy showers. I know it is easier said than done but do your very best to avoid hot showers. Cooler showers are proven to be less harsh on your hair and skin. If you cannot bare to shower without hot water, try to only shower with hot water when you are washing your body.
If you have color-treated hair or are suffering from a dry scalp you are going to want to wash your hair 2-3 times a week (but please still wash your body daily). Do your best to avoid harsh purple shampoo's as they contain heavy chemicals that can cause dryness to your scalp. Try #amika purple shampoo, it works great and is not as damaging to the scalp.
